Jayco was founded by Gerry Ryan and, with a team of 8 working from a small shed in Cranbourne, the first Camper Trailer was built (by the end of the year Jayco would shift its operation to Virginia Street, Springvale).
In that first year, Jayco would manufacture 526 Camper Trailers.
Australia’s most popular model – is rolled off the line. Producing 141 Pop Tops that year, Jayco has subsequently manufactured over 34,000 units. All Jayco Pop Tops are now constructed utilising the tough frame and proven aluminium body top.
The first Jayco Caravan was built and was an immediate success: building 139 caravans in that first year, Jayco has now made well over 11,000 caravans for RV enthusiasts throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Jayco commences building park cabins, found in the vast majority of parks nationwide. Falling into the 3-star plus category, our cabins feature two and three-bedroom options.
Celebrating its 10th year of operation, Jayco’s workforce of 160 is producing 2,800 RVs from its Cheltenham Road, Dandenong base.
In a world first, Jayco introduces the Outback Camper Trailer. This new prototype features a thicker chassis and greater ground clearance, allowing you to explore even further. The design was then duplicated in USA.
The designer series features for the first time an Aluminium frame rather than timber. Aluminium has proven to be stronger, lighter and better wearing than timber over time.
Jayco moves to Jayco Drive in Dandenong South from 35 Mills Road after thirteen years. This new site allowed Jayco to significantly grow from 1750 units in 1995 to 6900 units in 1997 over this time.
The Jayco Westport was released and was instrumental in Jayco gaining market share in the caravan market. The Westport was produced until the end of 2003.
Featuring advanced construction techniques and materials to provide enhanced durability, strength, and stability. This would later become known as the Endurance Chassis.
The launch of a new category in the Australian RV Industry, the Expanda is born. The Expanda is a hybrid between the Camper Trailer and the Caravan.
Jayco entered the Campervan market and built its network of Motorhome dealers. Its network grew to 32 dealers and 65 service agents throughout Australia.
Jayco celebrates its 30th anniversary by producing its new C Class Motorhome, dominating sales in that sector.
By this time, Jayco commands 44% market share and is producing 8,500 models of its innovative product range per year.
Jayco released the Basestation, a new category dubbed the ‘Toy Hauler’. This unique product has the living quarters in front, and a garage area in the back.
By the end of the year, Jayco had sold its 100,000th RV.
Jayco celebrates its 35th Anniversary with the launch of the new Sterling. The redesigned model features new joinery, laminex, front and rear mouldings and more layouts to choose from.
Jayco introduced the impressive Jayco 5th Wheeler.
This year heralded an update of Jayco’s product range with the introduction of the luxury Silverline Caravan and Journey Pop Top.
Jayco’s first true off grid caravan designed to go further built with a more solid structure and increased solar and battery storage. Jayco also introduces the All-Terrain Campervan to it’s motorised range.
By the end of the year, Jayco had sold its 200,000th RV.
Jayco completes it’s Off Grid range with the launch of the All-Terrain caravan and Crosstrak hybrid pop top.
Jayco bolsters it’s JPod range with the addition of the JPod-X featuring side doors and rear kitchen.
Jayco’s Off Grid and outback Camper ranges get green exterior along with battery management and solar enhancements.
